SECURITY

Updated: Sep 15, 2020

In our continuing effort to improve the safety and security of our campus, we are moving to radio frequency identification (RFID) badges for all SMA employees and Middle and High School students. These badges will provide access to school buildings, replacing the current code system. This system provides improved security throughout the campus.

SMA have adopted two pieces of technology that will be in place this year:

ACCESS CONTROL FOR STUDENTS

Students have been issued ID cards that allow them to enter the HS by placing the card next to a reader located at the main entrances to our building. Installing this equipment helps our school make sure that the staff knows who is in our building and keeps strangers from entering undetected.

EXPECTATIONS AND PROCEDURES

  • Students will be expected to wear their ID badges at all times (lanyards have been provided).

  • Please report any lost/stolen cards to the front office immediately so the card can be deactivated.

  • Students will have access to enter the building with their ID cards between the hours of 7:00 am - 4:00 pm.

  • Walking/Biking students should enter through the south west door

  • Bussing students should enter through the south east/forum door, or the northeast door/near the HS office.

PARENT/VISITOR ACCESS PROCEDURES

Visitors will then be asked to provide their driver’s license or another official form of ID

Visitors should enter at the main entrance to the school.

Visitors will now be required to press a button to gain entrance to the building. The button alerts office staff that a guest is requesting access to the school. The staff can then verify who is at the front door and release the door lock. This process may take a moment, so please be patient for the sake of our students’ safety. Once admitted to the school, visitors should proceed directly to the front office to sign in.

PLEASE NOTE THAT DURING THIS TIME VISITORS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON CAMPUS

Visitors will then be asked to provide their driver’s license or another official form of ID

Safety is the first priority in SMA, and these two new systems will better ensure that our students are in a safe and inviting learning environment. If you have any questions, please ask the front office staff at your school the next time you stop by for a visit.
