We are excited to announce our new Sources of Strength program in our High School Sources of Strength is a youth suicide prevention project designed to utilize peer social networks to change unhealthy norms and culture, ultimately preventing suicide, bullying, and substance abuse. The Sources of Strength program is one of the most rigorously evaluated prevention programs in the world and has successfully been implemented in a number of schools and school districts across Colorado as well as nationally. What is Sources of Strength?

Sources of Strength is an evidence based program that promotes healthy choices and positive relationships by empowering students to identify their individual Sources of Strength. Strength to cope with life comes in many forms. The logo for Sources of Strength is the wheel, divided into eight slices. Positive friends, Spiritual health, Family support, and Healthy activities are just a few of the areas that students can rely on in stressful situations. Led by peer leaders and guided by adults in the building, Sources of Strength recognizes that everyone needs a trusted adult to help navigate life and deal with the unexpected stresses that are part of growing. By identifying their own Sources of Strength and a trusted adult, students are given some of the tools they may need in the event of a crisis or stressful event. Peer leaders are nominated by their teachers at the beginning of each school year, and training is held as needed.
